Currency Industry Launches New Trade Association

11 April 2016

Paris, April 11, 2016

The currency industry has launched a new trade association today, the International Currency Association (ICA). The ICA is a not-for‐profit organisation representing all suppliers of currency as well as all suppliers of products, technologies, Cash‐in‐Transit services and equipment used in the design, production, handling, and circulation of currency worldwide.

The new industry association will work to support and promote currencies worldwide, provide a framework that fosters innovation in the currency industry and work alongside other bodies to support business being conducted to the highest ethical standards.

“Currency is the most financially inclusive and secure of all payment types. It accounts for 85% of transactions worldwide, and the amount of currency in circulation continues to grow year on year by approximately 5%. There is a debate taking place around financial inclusion and the role emerging technologies can play. Until now, there has not been a single voice for the currency industry in this debate. The ICA will provide that voice, In addition, the ICA will promote research and best practice sharing in order to drive the constant innovation needed to maintain and enhance the integrity of currency as a key payment mechanism,” stated Ralf Wintergerst, newly elected Chairman of the ICA Board.

The new association will support its members in building and in connecting through a global community. The ICA will provide both virtual and real platforms for networking and for exchanging know‐how and expertise.

The initial members of the ICA are:

Canadian Bank Note Company, Crane Currency, De La Rue, Fedrigoni, Giesecke & Devrient Gleitsmann Security Inks, Innovia Security, Jura, KBA‐NotaSys, Landqart, Leonhard Kurz, LouisenthaL, Orell Füssli, Parvis, Royal Kusters Engineering, SICPA, SURYS.

Following the launch, the ICA is now inviting all industry participants to join, in order to promote the benefits of cash as an essential component of a modern payment landscape and further the core goals of innovation and best practice across the industry.
